2AM Call

We are so happy to announce that our next single will be called ‘2AM Call’ and it will be out on 30th Oct.

The song will be the first song we have released to feature a co-write. For this song we have the immense pleasure of writing with fellow Northern Irish Artist and Songwriter Eilís. You can check out their music HERE.

The song is available to Pre-Save on Spotify now by clicking HERE

You can also buy a limited edition CD of the single direct from us. These will be limited to only 50 copies and will be hand signed by us. You can get a copy below

The song is written after a night out in a bar (The Parlour – mentioned in the song) where we observed a guy sitting at a bar talking to the bartender. He then went outside where he had an argument with a Girl. Minutes later He arrived back in to the same place and began talking again to the bar tender who began to console him.

We later found out that he had arrived with the Girl and they had just broken up. After witnessing this we thought that it would make a great narrative for a song. So after arriving back to Eilís’ apartment we wrote down the skeleton of the song. We constructed the narrative that the couple had broken up and in a distraught state the guy calls the Girl every night at 2am after drowning his sorrows asking for forgiveness. Wondering why She left him and dreaming of a way to get her back.

The song was finished after several writing sessions and a demo session where we fleshed out the arrangement.

Better Than This is an uplifting story which deals with the theme that no matter how hard things seem, they can always get better. It follows the two central characters. One, is a singer songwriter who is struggling hard playing in all the dive bars She can to make a go at being a successful musician. But no matter how hard they try they just can’t seem to make any progress. The second character a successful business Man who ends up loosing everything because they squandered all their money playing a game of keeping-up-with-the-Jones’. So they are forced to get a new job to rebuild everything. As the two characters continue on with their journeys they cross paths in the middle and realise that things will get better and they just have to keep working on their dreams.

This song recalls heavily on the duos love of storytelling and the musician character is semi-autobiographical, covering the struggles of being an independent musician in today’s world. Especially with the current climate where musicians main revenue stream is being pulled away from them due to the worldwide pandemic. But within that darkness we must have faith in our dreams and push through, knowing that things will indeed get better. A universal message for everyone.

For the artwork for this release we wanted to channel some serious nostalgia vibes. So we took inspiration from classic 80’s movies like The Goonies and ET where everyone was riding their bikes everywhere and we tied a love story element around that.

After last month’s dark and heavy subject matter the duo lighten things up with the breezy and summery “I Want You”. The song itself is about the feeling of falling in love. Those early stages when you are lusting after someone. But, you are not sure if the other person feels the same way. So, the song recounts those first moments of wanting to be with someone. Through to being their everything and those moments when you turn the lights down low and imagine all the bad things you can do.

Throughout the monthly release strategy, the duo have enjoyed exploring new sonic palettes, song types and generally having fun with music. Letting the songs guide their own sound without letting marketing get in the way of the creative process. They duo have also discovered the joy of writing a song and instantly recording it. Not stewing over ideas. If a song comes quickly then great. If not, then it’s onto the next idea. A real moment of creative freedom.

This time, the duo have incorporated a horn section and solo trumpet into the song. As well as using the recording studio as an instrument, leading to lots of sonic exploration. Such as playing a banjo with a slide, using distortion on it and reversing it. The song itself actually comes from an idea that was sung into a phone voice recording mimicing a trumpet. After coming off tour we showed the idea to Nathan Simpson. Nathan then transposed this idea to the trumpet and the song was written around that sequence of notes.

Proud to be DIY artists Chantelle and Chris recorded, produced and mixed the song themselves. With Chantelle and Chris playing all the instruments on the track. Apart from the Trumpet and Drums. The Drums were tracked by Chris Brush in Nashville, TN. The track was Mastered by Pete Maher (U2, Rolling Stones, The Killers, Snow Patrol and many more).  “I Want You” will be released across all digital and streaming platforms on 10th July 2020.
